Desert Door Texas Sotols story stems from a reverence for the dry land of West Texas. The story of the sotol plant itself begun in Chihuahuan Desert long ago. This tie to the land speaks to the brand in many ways, but one is a call to help conserve these wild places. This extension to the product line helps fund conservation efforts and allows for the distillery to create special batches of Sotol in a new bottle that reflects its mission.

Bottle Concept & Design

Inspired by the sand and heat of the desert, the Conservation Series bottle is textured like gritty sand. The label also contains the rough texture so that there is continuity in the feel of the entire bottle. The warm color speaks of Texas terrain and the simple silhouette is reminiscent of apothecary bottles. Hand drawn topography of the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park wrap around the bottom of the bottle. To follow keep to the mission of conservation, this bottle is fully recyclable and continues to use more earth friendly materials.

Conservation Project Imagery & Storytelling

I photographed a prescribed burn out in West Texas. designed and wrote copy for social media and print collateral for the product release. I also worked as an Art Director with Saltbox Films to create a short documentary about the event and purpose behind this conservation effort.

Conservation Merchandise Line

To go along with the bottle release, I illustrated, designed and sourced a new merchandise line for the distillery shop, Cargo. Focused on sustainability, we created objects that are meant for reuse and are made with ethical materials, like hemp.
